Lost in France

TricolorMrs FIUK and I are currently in France on a reconnaissance visit to look for areas we may want to move to when we have reached FI, so there will probably be no posts until we return, or I may get the opportunity to upload some short posts on our travels and what we have seen (but I promise this site will not become a travel blog).

We are visiting the Midi-Pyrenees as we both love to ski and cycle so both are readily available in this area. We have only been here one day so far, and had a bit of a drive round to see some of the Tour de France cols (Tourmalet and Aspin) as well as two ski towns (Bangeres du Luchon and Barege).

Some of the small towns do look promising, so will return to have a better look later in the week.

    Have a great time!

Have you already decided on France as an ultimate FIRE destination then? If it’s anything like Grand Designs you’ll have to go and have dinner with the mayor before he lets you move in.

      Hi FIbrarian

France is pretty much finalised if we do actually leave the UK. As you say we will have to get the mayor to approve us first as he is a “Big Cheese” (or should that be Grand Fromage) in French society.

There are still lots of things to consider before we definitely decide to leave old Blighty so although we have found an area where we would like to live in France, still have to weigh up pros and cons of a move.

      Hi JC

Thanks for your comment, and hope that you are OK.

It was a really great and useful week. We know where in France we will move to if we do choose to move (Midi-Pyrenees which is great for walking and cycling in Summer but also great for Skiing in Winter).

Looking at your posts hope you can resume building up your portfolio again soon, and look forward to following your progress

      Hi Weenie

Thanks for your comment, and now back in UK so will have end of September updates to do soon.

Hope everything will work out with your pension at work, and that they have got it wrong, but you at least have some savings to give you some flexibility (and I assume you will keep saving, even with your fantastic sounding upcoming holiday).

I am sure you will enjoy snowboarding, but if you do get the bug Winter sport holidays are not the cheapest way to holiday (as skiers we have spent a s**t load of cash over the years and without this would probably be able to leave the desk ball and chain now).

Look forward to seeing you continue to progress on your FI journey.

      Best Wishes
